Do Psychic Gifts run in the Family?

Often if you talk to someone who is open about their psychic abilities, they will tell you stories of ancestors, some generations back who had ‘the gift’ and how it has been passed down through the family.
Psychic gifts can vary and they include mediumship, clairvoyance, seeing auras, psychometry and precognition. Generally ‘being psychic’ relates to someone who is believed to possess extra-sensory powers. Could it be these abilities run in the family?
One explanation as to why some families seem to have more psychics than others could well be the openness within these households, to accept, display and encourage psychic abilities. A child who hears a parent making predictions because of images they saw in a dream or whose grandmother regularly reads the tea-leaves for her neighbours is more likely to recognise and acknowledge these abilities within themselves.
Even stronger will be the leaning if and when the child observes the parents’ psychic talent as being proven correct. The more often this occurs, the stronger will be the child’s belief in the possibility of us all having a spiritual side that can be developed and used in a positive way.
Another possible explanation is those souls with more highly developed psychic abilities will tend to gravitate towards each other. Going on the concept of reincarnation, some believe that people can meet over and over again in a number of lifetimes. In this respect people might follow each other for centuries, sharing several lifetime of experiences together. It could be therefore that those strongly attuned to the psychic world might gravitate towards each other in each successive incarnation.
Not everyone who is psychic will come from a family who share similar abilities. There are those who are aware of their spiritual abilities but who might hide this aspect of themselves from a family who “don’t believe in that sort of thing.” Or they may play down their abilities so as others don’t look on them as being “different” or “spooky.” The writer is aware of people who have deliberately suppressed their psychic self for just such reasons.
Therefore, being among people who understand and who are sensitive to the psychic needs of a person is bound to help encourage their spiritual development. Belonging to a family who accept and celebrate their psychic gifts can only be a joy as all the family help and support each other develop their unique gifts to their full potential.
