Halloween Rituals for Romance and Luck
The eve of the pagan new year was the time when the ancients would ask their Gods and Goddesses for future success and happiness and make resolutions for the year ahead. Some even believed that at Halloween, there were rituals they could perform to help them see into the future and cast magic spells. - They would cast Money and Prosperity Spells, Protection-from-evil Spells, Fertility Spells and Love Spells. - Love Spells were cast for all sorts of reasons: to attract love, to recapture an ex-lover, to find a soul mate, to protect marriage, to bind two lovers together, forever.
Following in the Celtic tradition, below are some simple spells and rituals you might use to add a little magic (and fun) to your life at Halloween.
Seeing the Future ...
Whilst baking a cake, add into the ingredients: a coin, a ring and a thimble. Depending on who gets what in their slice, the coin means riches for the finder, the ring means a wedding but the thimble means a relationship break-up!
Peel an apple, making sure that the peel comes off in one piece. Then throw the peel over your right shoulder. Look down at the peel and see what letter shape it has made on the ground. This will be the initial of your future lover!
To see an image of your future partner, you should comb your hair in front of a mirror at midnight on Halloween, while eating an apple. The image should soon appear in the mirror.
Dreaming of the Future ...
All sorts of things used to be placed under pillows to produce dreams about one's future lover, the most popular being a sprig of rosemary. Also, by putting an apple under your pillow and then eating it in the morning, you will enjoy good fortune over the year ahead.
Halloween Ritual to Attract Success ...
You need: a green leaf, a yellow flower and a blue flower. A handful of earth, a bowl and an orange envelope.
The green leaf is to attract luck. The yellow flower will bestow success and the blue flower is to unite the other two. Pick up each one in your left hand and place them in the bowl of earth, imagining yourself to be successful, as you do so. Gently mix the plants with the earth, visualising what you must do to achieve your goals. Then place flowers and soil into the orange envelope, seal it and store it in a safe place.
And A Charm to Attract Good Fortune ...
You need: a firm lemon with plenty of green in it, coloured pins (not black) and a white ribbon.
Each pin will represent a specific quality that you wish to invite for yourself (or for a friend for whom you are making this charm) in the future. As you stick the pins into the lemon, say out loud the quality that is associated with each colour:
Red - health, Gold - prosperity, Blue - tranquillity, Green - fertility and/or money, Silver - intuition, White - purity, Purple - learning. These are only suggestions. Go with what you feel each colour means for you. State the qualities you expect every time you pierce the skin. Once you've finished, thread a white ribbon through the top of your lemon. It is now ready to hang in your hallway for good fortune, or to give to a friend as a gift.
