Feel Good Therapies: Rainbow Therapy

Rainbow Healing involves alternative therapies using colour as a form of healing of mind, body, emotions and spirit.

For so many people, simply observing a rainbow in all its glory can be a powerfully uplifting experience. Tuning into the various colours of the rainbow for healing can be extremely relaxing as well as helping to reconnect a person with their higher self.

Practitioners of Rainbow Healing employ the psychology and history of colour and how colours relate to the chakras, to bring comfort and healing. They might also use other spiritual tools such as crystals, aromatherapy and pendulum dowsing within the healing session.

How do colours help restore the energy balance within our bodies? It has been found that different colours vibrate at different frequencies. People automatically relate colours to moods, for instance if someone is feeling 'blue', they may be going through a depressed phase. Think of the phrase 'green with envy' and this colour that relates to the heart chakra can be used to bring harmony, compassion and understanding in healing. Too much green on the other hand might cause jealousy, indifference and a lack of sensitivity.

Through Rainbow Therapy, the different colours of the rainbow are used to stimulate and recharge energies depending on a person's mood and physical condition. Although complex in nature, the following gives a brief description of how colours are used in healing:

Orange - Orange helps to strengthen the immune system and increase sexual energy. After illness, this colour can be used to help build up a person's strength.

Red - Red helps recharge energy. It is often used for poor circulation, multiple sclerosis and anaemia and for illnesses related to the spinal column and the kidneys.

Blue - Blue helps bring a feeling of peace; it is a calming colour. As well as helping to bring more settled emotions, blue is the colour that might be chosen for feverish conditions, nausea, an underactive thyroid and lung problems.

Indigo - Purple helps balance all the energies in the aura; it might be used in meditation and to help cure headaches.

Violet - Violet helps to inspire and purify. This colour may be used to restore a person's perspective and to help balance mind, body and emotions. It might also be used for cancer, arthritis, sciatica, neuralgia and bladder problems.

Yellow - Yellow helps lift the spirit and clears the mind. This colour is often used to help give those who are depressed or stressed a mental uplift. Yellow in healing might be chosen for stomach upsets, bladder problems and loss of appetite.

Green - Green is a powerfully healing colour, relating to the heart chakra. It might be used for high blood pressure, stress related illnesses, the heart and circulatory system and to promote calmness.

Because Rainbow Therapy is all about using colours to help balance the person within, too much of a certain colour can have the opposite affect to what it is being used for. If, for instance, red is over used it can promote anger and agitation.

Rainbow Therapists draw on the effects of colour to help heal the body and soul. An awareness of how colours resonate with your own wavelengths may help attract more joy, passion and happiness into your life and enhance your good health.
